THREE THINGS: Wet N Wild On Edge Long Wearing Eye Pencil in To My Yang, MegaLiner Liquid Eyeliner in Electric Purple, Pro Line Felt Tip Eyeliner in Dark Brown

Once upon a time, one of my blogger goals was to review ALL THE THINGS. Three years later, and I'm still in that mindset. Because there's something that gets me so excited about trying something new. So in an attempt to cover all the things that I put on my face, I thought I'd review THREE THINGS at a time in a series with just that name. Three is a nice number, right?

First up, we've got a three new-ish (to Canada) eye products from Wet N Wild - the Wet N Wild On Edge Long Wearing Eye Pencil in To My Yang (~$3.49 USD), the Wet N Wild MegaLiner Liquid Eyeliner in Electric Purple ($5.50 CAD), and the Wet N Wild Pro Line Felt Tip Eyeliner in Dark Brown ($6.99 CAD).

HAUL: Sephora + Samples

It was getting close to my B-Day and without a Sephora in the area, I was sad that I couldn't pick up my Sephora Beauty Insider Birthday Gift. So, I made an order on Sephora.ca

I'm constantly browsing the Sephora website, but I typically make only 3 Sephora orders per year (not including in-store purchases..hehe). I purchase slightly over the $50 minimum (previously $75) and spend my grocery money on things that I've been coveting for a while or things that I feel like I absolutely need. This was my first order with the new Canadian warehousing and the shipping was pretty much 1-day. Impressive.

#ManiMonday - Ukrainian Easter Egg Nail Art

If you've ever made and designed a Easter egg (Ukrainian style), you'll know that the process is quite tedious and the detailed designs take a very steady hand. Traditional Pysanka (Ukrainian Easter eggs) are made by drawing a design with wax, dipping the egg in dye and burning off the wax. The process is called batik and after burning off the wax, the areas underneath remain white.

HAIR: Maple Holistics Winter Blend Shampoo & Conditioner

My hair is fickle. Oily in the summer and brittle in the winter. So, I've been switching up my haircare options. Currently in my shower (at home) is the Maple Holistics Winter Blend Shampoo and Conditioner ($13.95 each or $18.45 as a set on sale).

Maple Holistics is a natural brand for skin, hair and body that uses blends of essential oils for aromatherapy and therapeutics. Note, Maple Holistics doesn't claim to use organic ingredients but the website does state that their products are safe for colour treated hair, sulfate-free, and not tested on animals (vegan friendly). One cool thing about Maple Holistics is that they have a 100% Quality Guarantee, which means that if you're not satisfied with the results of a Maple Holistics product, they'll either replace your product with something more suitable or give you a full refund.

Too Faced Little Black Book of Bronzers Wardrobe // Chocolate, Bunnies, Leopards and Summer

Spring has sprung. I'm mega pale. Face needs bronzer. Luckily, I've got the Too Faced Little Black Book of Bronzers [aka Bronzer Wardrobe] ($70 CAD on toofaced.com) on my side. It's a mega palette of 8 different bronzers. That's more than one for every single day of the week.

Wearing the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil as contour, Too Faced Pink Leopard as blush and Snow Bunny as a blush topper.

HOW-TO: Grow and Maintain Long, Healthy Nails

On the blog and IRL, one of the most frequently asked questions that I receive is "Are your nails fake?". I then proceed to answer with a firm "No way, Jose." and the next question that follows is "How do you keep them so long?" Here's the answer to that question!

Avoid activities that are tough on your nails. I'm not saying that you have to be a lazy princess to have long nails. I'm saying that you shouldn't use your nails a replacement for can openers, scissors, tweezers, pliers and similar tools. I can't count on my fingers how many times I've broken a nail peeling tape off of boxes, opening a mesh bag of oranges, typing violently, or plucking a stray brow hair. Also, if you're going to hand-wash laundry or dishes, consider wearing gloves to avoid exposing your nails to water damage.

BRB: What's Coming Up for March and April

Hello, friends! My apologies for being a little less on top of it with the posting over the last couple weeks. Sometimes I act like I'm a full-time blogger instead of a full-time student. The reality is that I'm in the midst of completing a graduate degree in a Masters of Accounting program... exciting I know. Undergrad was peanuts compared to Masters and I'm a tad stressed. I'm turning 22 tomorrow and I'll be celebrating by working on two term projects due Monday and Tuesday. YAYYYY.

Focusing on school is hard when I know I've got a pile of beauty things waiting to be slapped on my face. BUT I'm focused on my career goals and I can't let all the lipsticks and blushes in the world stop me.

My plans for the next few months are as follows:

MARCH - School (aka finals, term projects, etc.)
APRIL - Greece... I can't WAITT!!!

Here's what you can expect on the blog:
  • I'm going to do the best I can to post at least 2x per week.
  • You'll still see some posts on the 'gram (instagram.com/stephh_lau)
  • I'll still continue to do #manimondays (because my nails always gotta be on fleek)
  • I have a few posts scheduled from way back when.
  • You can stay up to date with my riveting study life on snapchat (@stephh_lau
I'll be back in late April with lots of spring releases, fun looks and giveaways, I promise. See ya'll on the other side! xx Steph

Lipstick Queen Medieval

The use of lipstick dates back to Medieval times, yet it was considered sinful at the time to wear lipstick (and other makeup). So, women resorted to at-home DIY concoctions to add a hint of natural stain to the lips. Even Lisa Eldridge's book Face Paint: The Story of Makeup makes reference to these Medieval practices.

While lipstick of all colours and opacity are totally acceptable in today's society, some of us still want that natural, sheer tint of red. Aaaaaand... Lipstick Queen's Medieval ($30 CAD, from Scarlet & Julia) is the product just for that!

Harry Potter Nail Art // #ManiMonday

I've read the entire Harry Potter series at least 10 times over. I wouldn't call myself a fanatic but I do have a Pottermore account (I'm in Ravenclaw!). It's a whole lot of childhood nostalgia.

One of my friends requested that I do some Harry Potter nail art and I thought I'd make it happen. I drew inspiration from @ClaireLoftHouse. It's fairly easy design but quite time consuming because of all the little details.

HAIR: Reverse Washing with Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume

Conditioner before Shampoo? It could be blasphemous to some but it ain't a new thing.

Reverse washing is the act of applying conditioner and then shampoo when washing your hair. The idea behind reverse washing is that conditioner after shampoo leaves hair weighed down, so doing it the other way around would first nourish your hair and then lighten it up, as the shampoo would take away some of the heaviness of the conditioner.

Wet N Wild Velvet Matte Lip Colors in Shelly Shocked, Lie Lack & Nude Streak

Pastel lip colours are not my jam but for the blog (and for spring time!), I'll try anything. The Wet N Wild Naked Protest Velvet Matte Lip Colors ($3.69 USD, available online only at wetnwildbeauty.com) are a matte lip pencil range. I was sent three very pale colours to take for a test drive - Shelly Shocked (pastel coral), Lie Lack (pastel lilac) and Nude Streak (light beige nude).

DryBar Sake Bomb Shampoo & Conditioner

No, this is not the bar that you go to on a Friday night for drinks. The DryBar brand is a full line of styling products and tools that originates from a chain of salons throughout the US (California, NYC, Texas, etc) that offers just blowouts

Gotta love a good concept. Everything is named after something that has to do with a bar (i.e. the one you go to on a Friday night). The cashiers are called bartenders, hairstyles are named after cocktails (cosmo, manhattan, mai tai, etc.), and even the styling products have some sort of relation to a mixed drink. And it's so punny (funny with a 'p') because their's no alcohol (i.e. it's dry). Get it?

Today, I present to you Sake Bomb Nourishing Shampoo and Hydrating Conditioner ($30 each). FYI, a sake bomb is a drink that is much like a jagerbomb, except you'd replace the jager with sake and Redbull with a glass of beer.

Thank goodness the DryBar Sake Bomb Shampoo and Conditioner smell nothing like sake or beer.

Lavender Lips with the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Sway // #NYXCanada

If you were ever looking for a cool lavender lipstick, the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick ($10) in Sway is pure beauty. Lavender ain't a particularly wearable colour but it's just so fun that I can't help but slap it on from time to time. I have yet to wear it out in public but I've been rocking it in the comfort of my own apartment.

Revlon Ultimate All-in-One Mascara & Revlon Volume + Length Magnified Mascara

Revlon recently discontinued all of their mascaras and released five new ones. The new Revlon Mascara Collection is clear, concise and succinct. Each one has a specific purpose. There's Dramatic Definition, Ultra Volume, Super Length, Volume + Length, and Ultimate All-in-One ($8.99 each).

Two of the five landed on my desk a few weeks ago. I chose the Revlon Volume + Length Magnified Mascara (blue cap) because I thought it best suited my straight, stubbly and sparse lashes. I also wanted to try the Revlon Ultimate All-in-One Mascara (red cap) because...WHO DOESN'T WANT IT ALL.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting 4-in-1 Face Contouring Palette in 20 Light, 30 Medium, 40 Tan & 50 Dark

Face sculpting is not a new thing, even though the contouring craze has been going on for a couple years now. The concepts of shade and light, volumes and planes and sculpting are rooted in the fine arts. Face sculpting and contouring products are meant to emphasize the way the light hits the face. This is what the new MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting lineup of face, brow and lip products looks to achieve.

The MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting 4-in-1 Face Contouring Palette ($54 CAD, available March 2016) comes in 4 shades - 20 (light), 30 (medium), 40 (tan), 50 (dark), in which each of the four products (matte highlight, matte contour, shimmering highlight, flesh tone/blush).

Mary Kay Into the Garden Lip & Eye Colour Compact

I could rave for hours and hours about how much I love the packaging of the Mary Kay Into the Garden Lip & Eye Colour Compact ($45) but what really matters is what's inside. There are four eyeshadows, three lip colours and a dual-sided brush.
