LUSH the Comforter Shower Cream

Dubbed "a cuddle in a bottle", the LUSH the Comforter shower cream ($9.95/100mL) has a sweet, warm enveloping scent that's supposed to be like cuddles from someone you love.

L'Oreal Miss Manga Mascara in Black Brown

I know, I know... I'm late to the L'Oreal Miss Manga Mascara ($11.99) party. I didn't even think of trying it until my boyfriend bought it for me (so sweet of him to help me indulge in my beauty lemmings). So... when your boyfriend buys you a mascara, you wear it.

THEFACESHOP Pig Character Mask

In an attempt to use up more of my facemasks, Charles (le bf) and I broke open THEFACESHOP Character Mask set ($9 for 3 masks), which includes a pig, dog and monkey. Each mask's ingredients are targeted towards a specific skin concern (pig - moisturizing, monkey - soothing, dog - brightening).

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer in Y23

Netflix all night, class the next morning necessity #1... a really good under eye concealer. Let's be real. I haven't had time to watch Netflix all night. It's more like study all night and cry.

New to me and just launched this month is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer ($32) in Y23 which I've been testing a little less than a week. Make Up For Ever says that it's a groundbreaking formulation that visibly illuminates, conceals dark under eye circles and seamlessly blurs fine lines and wrinkles. Sounds like the under eye equivalent to a cup of coffee.

In addition to reversing sleep deprivation, the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer is a part of the Ultra HD line, which means that it's designed to look flawless under the clarity and high resolution of 4k HD video technology.

Skinceuticals Metacell B3 // #PreventProtectCorrect

My skincare priorities are preventing stress/pms-related bumpies (especially when I go on a junk food spree) and keeping my oiliness under control. As a 21-year old with oily-normal skin, anti-aging skincare is not my #1 concern.

I've tested anti-aging skincare (for the thrill of it, ya know?) to see if it would do anything for my skin. I found most products to be too heavy for me. Since those experimental skincare days, I've focused on my priorities.

#MANIMONDAY - Geometric Nail Art ft. Formula X Alchemy II

If I could, I would do nail art every day of the week. Compared to last year, my new grad student life doesn't allow for one of my favourite hobbies. For a while, I was doing nail art 3-4 times a week but now I have to limit it to a menial once per week. *tears*.

Anyways, less nail art means that I'm going to push myself to do cooler nail things this year - colour combos, tools, techniques, and maybe even some free-handed painting with acrylics...

Head-to-Toe Acne Solutions // #NeutrogenaCA

December and January have been months of affordable skincare testing. While it's nice to slather expensive creams on my face, it's actually a little nostalgic to go back to my teenage skincare roots with a throwback to mass market drugstore skincare to compare their effectiveness to the more expensive skincare goods I've been using.

While I'm out of my teenage acne-prone skincare days, I do still have extremely oily skin and I am prone to pizza-diet/stress/time-of-the-month induced breakouts.  Thus, I'm always down to try oil-free, acne-fighting skincare. Neutrogena is one of those brands that has a ton of products dedicated to acne solutions. Here are my thoughts on a few of them...

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara in Blackest Black

In all honesty, none of the Maybelline mascaras that I've tried in the past worked for me. Maybe I haven't been trying the right ones. Many, many bloggers (like Julie of Swatch and Review and Courtney of La Belle Sirene) have raved about the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara ($10.99), saying that it's a must-have from the drugstore. I thought I should give it a shot, so I picked up a tube at a #bbloggersCA swap.

Demeter Vanilla Foolproof Blending Trio in Hawaiian Vanilla, Angel Food and Gingerbread // #CBBFoolproofBlend

Vanilla is one of the most common notes in inexpensive and luxury fragrances alike. It's classic, warm, sweet and easily recognizable. The Demeter Fragrance Library Vanilla Foolproof Blending Trio ($45 - 3 x 30mL bottles) contains three takes on vanilla scents. Something floral (Hawaiian Vanilla), something sweet (Angel Food) and something spicy (Gingerbread).

#MANIMONDAY - Nude + Black // Madeline Poole for Adam Selman at NYFW S/S15

Easy nail art is the best nail art. I swear I get more compliments on the simple ones over some of my more difficult nail art designs. My fave nail art instagram is by far @mpnails (aka Madeline Poole) Sally Hansen's Global Color Ambassador. Her designs are playful and artsy yet simple. This nude nail + black dot is one of them.

HAIR: HASK Macadamia Oil Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Conditioner & Shine Hair Oil

Split ends and frizz galore. Winter leaves my hair feeling particularly dry and damaged compared to the rest of the year. Thankfully, there's haircare to fix all of that. Lately, I've been using the HASK Macadamia Oil Shampoo ($5.99), Conditioner ($5.99), Revitalizing Shine Oil ($2.99) and Hydrating Deep Conditioning Packet ($2.99).

New York Color Cityproof Extended Wear Lip Gloss in 450 Everlasting Blossom, 452 Perpetually Hot Pink, 460 Gold with Me, 462 Freeze Mauve & 463 Ruby Pink

Ever used a lip gloss that lasted 8 HOURS? According to New York Color, its new CityProof Extended Wear Lip Gloss ($2.77, exclusively at Walmart) lasts UP TO 8 HOURS. Holy mother of staying power. Obviously, I needed to put these claims to the test because 4 hours is probably the longest I’ve ever worn a lip gloss.

I received 5 of the 10 available shades in the mail - 450 Everlasting Blossom, 452 Perpetually Hot Pink, 460 Gold with Me, 462 Freeze Mauve, & 463 Ruby Pink. To be quite honest, they all appear clear on my lips with varying degrees of shimmer and tints of colour. Perpetually Hot Pink, Freeze Mauve and Ruby Pink are have a hint of pink, while Everlasting Blossom and Gold With Me have an almost metallic sheen and are on the more glittery side of things.

All 5 of the glosses have a vinyl, high-shine look that I would expect from any lip gloss (lip glosses are supposed to be glossy, right?). NYC says it’s a non-sticky formula. I’d say it has a medium stick, prone to the hair-in-mouth-when-windy issue and some light transfer upon eating food and drinking water.

As for the staying power, I’d say that the gloss lasts a fair 4 hours with a moisturizing residue left over for 2 additional hours. Granted, 4 hours and then some is impressive for any gloss, especially when it's less than $5.

What's your longest lasting lip gloss?

HAUL: Scarlet & Julia

Scarlet & Julia is the latest online destination for beauty shopping. It's got two pieces...
(1) La Boutique - which contains a wide range of mid-range to prestige beauty brands; and
(2) Beauty Outlet - which includes sales of up to 80% on the site's brands updated weekly.

I received a complimentary $50 gift card from Scarlet and Julia to try out their service. So, I perused the site for beauty goodies. The site was easy to navigate, as it has tons of filter options (product type, colour, skin type, brand, price, etc). The only thing I couldn't seem to find is a section for reviews, which I ended up looking for elsewhere.

MAC Oh Darling! In Extra Dimension Skinfinish // MAC Magic of the Night

The MAC Oh Darling! In Extra Dimension Skinfinish ($38.50 CAD, limited edition) is not a highlighter for the faint of heart. Oh Darling! is an in-your-face highlight that could be described as a metallic gold that doesn't bother to be natural. It's currently sold out on the MAC website but can be found for suspiciously high prices on e-bay and the like.

According to Julie of Swatch and Review, it was the most anticipated release in the MAC Magic of the Night collection for its similarities to MAC's limited edition Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Whisper of Gilt. I haven't tried/swatched Whisper of Gilt nor do I follow MAC collections but I did look it up on Temptalia and holy geez is it a stunner (as is Oh Darling!)

Oily Skin Morning Routine // #MyCleanAndClearRoutine #SeeTheRealMe

Since my high school days, oiliness has been one of my biggest physical insecurities. Imagine agony of waking up in the morning and spending an hour putting on perfect, full face of makeup only to watch it eat up your makeup within a few hours, leaving nothing but a slick of oil. All that hard work gone to waste. That would be my life without oil-controlling skincare, which makes me feel comfortable in my own skin by regulating the oils and letting me go about my day without worrying about how I look. Thank goodness for skincare.

The CityProof Face with New York Color // #GetItAll

Did you know that New York Color has beauty products that claim to have up to 8 and 24 hours of wear? Not that I would ever recommend wearing makeup for 24 hours but it sure could come in handy if I'm at school all day to study and still want to look fabulous. New York Color set me a mascara, eyeliners, eyeshadow pencils and glosses, all from their CityProof range!

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in Light Beige

It's been a while since I've delved into the depths of testing a new foundation. I'll have you know that foundation is my favourite thing in the world to try. Late last year, (spoiler alert) I fell head over heels for the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation ($49), which is described as an undetectable medium-to-full coverage foundation.

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Eau De Parfum

Oh, Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire. How beautiful you are. (EDP - $76 for 1 oz, $102 for 1.6 oz). Translated from French, La Petite Robe Noire means little black dress. Like a little black dress, the fragrance is meant to be an all-encompassing scent for a night out on the town, a date and pretty much every other occasion.

Sephora Formula X #ColorCuratrors Collection 2016 with Aimee Song of Song of Style (January)

For the 2016 year, Sephora Formula X is introducing a collaboration with 10 beauty, fashion and wellness influencers, each to express Xpress their signature style through a three polish mini collection.

Each month, three new polishes inspired by an influencer will be released exclusively at Sephora stores and Sephora.ca. Apparently, the last month and influencer is someone HUGE because it will be a three month long extravaganza of nail polish. Each curated collection includes 3 polishes in Formula X's No Compromise formula, for which I am a huge fan of. The polish is super shiny, 3-free and fairly long wearing (4+ days).
