Wet N Wild Velvet Matte Lip Colors in Shelly Shocked, Lie Lack & Nude Streak

Pastel lip colours are not my jam but for the blog (and for spring time!), I'll try anything. The Wet N Wild Naked Protest Velvet Matte Lip Colors ($3.69 USD, available online only at wetnwildbeauty.com) are a matte lip pencil range. I was sent three very pale colours to take for a test drive - Shelly Shocked (pastel coral), Lie Lack (pastel lilac) and Nude Streak (light beige nude).

I do love a lip colour in pencil form and the Wet N Wild Naked Protest Velvet Matte Lip Colors are not only pencils but also twist-up! The line comes in 9 shades (all of which you can find swatched on Chelle's blog). There isn't just have pastels, there's also some slightly deeper colours that would probably suit me much better.

Wet N Wild says the formulation is meant to be full colour with a weightless feel. On the lips these do feel extremely velvety and soft. There's no drag whatsoever on application. Being a matte lip colour, the product does catch on to and accentuate dry patches, particularly due to the pale nature of the shades. I found that the product didn't really "stick" to my lips as I would expect from a matte lipstick, as smushing my lips together rubs caused the pigment to move around leaving empty patches. So, lasting power was quite poor for these, maybe less than 2-3 hours with eating and drinking.

All three of the Wet N Wild Naked Protest Velvet Matte Lip Colors in Shelly Shocked (pastel coral), Lie Lack (pastel lilac) and Nude Streak (light beige nude) are fun and bright. But because they're so pastel I run into quite a few application and staying power issues. Also, they wash me out quite a bit so I'll be passing these on to a friend. BUT I haven't tried the other colours so I can't say the same thing about those. I really want to try Looking for Truffle (mauve) and Hickory Smoked (burnt red) which are slightly deeper colours!
